Workington Comets back online with brand new official club website
Workington Comets have returned to the internet with their brand new official club site for 2013.
Following successful discussions with a new team of developers in October, work began on the new site in mid November and all the stops have been pulled out to get the team's new online home up and running as soon as possible.

The site was due to be launched at 9pm on Thursday night (6th December) with an exclusive story naming the final two Comets riders of 2013, however this element of surprise has been ruined following an unwanted leak of the news on social networking sites.

Comets co-promoter Steve Whitehead said, "We're delighted with the new site, and particularly happy with how quickly the team behind our new site have managed to pull everything together for us against such a tight deadline, with the aim of launching on Thursday with the exclusive that the fans have been waiting for. It's a real shame that a certain individual has felt it necessary to go to the lengths of spoiling what has been a lot of hard work and effort for everyone else.

"With the launch just a day away, a lot of last-minute work was being carried out on the site's various sections. During this time, the individual concerned has managed to find the article and then saw fit to post it around the internet, spoiling what would have been a great surprise for our fans and supporters.

"It's a real shame when so many people have put in so much hard work that somebody can think it's clever to go and ruin the whole thing just to get a bit of attention, but unfortunately that's life and that's how some people are. All we can do is apologise to the genuine supporters who were looking forward to Thursday evening.

"The site itself is obviously in its early days, and there will be a lot more to follow - the fixtures haven't yet been released for one thing, and our online shop will be going live in early 2013. That, combined with the ability to purchase tickets online, will provide a true online home and is a massive step forward for the Comets."

The all new workingtoncomets.co has been developed by the team behind several other speedway websites including the official homes of the Newcastle Diamonds (including their hugely popular live updates service) and the Edinburgh Monarchs, as well as a host of international riders and of course a range of other non-speedway websites ranging from businesses and organisations to Sky television presenters.

Workington's new website manager, Graeme Paterson, said "We were approached by Workington Speedway's new owners in late October and asked if we'd take on the job of building the club and the supporters a new web home. The deadline was pretty tight (putting it politely!) but we've managed!

"It's a shame about the story being leaked, as the club were keen to launch the new site with that story, but I think everyone knows that there's always going to be one person who will spoil it for the rest."
