Mason Campton Still Awaiting Clearance
Wed 27 Mar 2013 by Official Press Release
Workington Comets have been forced to call up guest riders
Workington Comets have been forced to call up guest riders for this coming weekend's season opening meetings against Newcastle in the Ian Thomas Shield as their new Aussie recruit, Mason Campton, is still waiting for the all clear to fly out of Australia to take his place in the Comets line-up.

“Naturally we are disappointed to have to do this but it is now clear that Mason will not be able to get here in time for the weekend”, rued Comets owner Laura Morgan.

“Obviously there is no-one more frustrated about the situation than Mason himself. His bikes are here and everything else is in place for him to get his season underway with his new club, but until he receives one final communication from the Australian end of things he can't get on a ‘plane,” she added.

As guest cover for their young Aussie the Comets have brought in Rye House rider Simon Lambert for the home fixture on Saturday night and then on Sunday, at Newcastle, former Comet Simon Nielsen from Leicester will be pulling on a Workington race-jacket once more to fill the reserve berth in Campton's absence.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “It is unfortunate that we are in this position as we have been pushing paperwork through the system since the first week of the New Year and we are just one small but critical step away right now. However, we are now at the mercy of the Australian end of things and it is simply a waiting game at present, but hopefully another few days will see everything finally cleared.

“I am satisfied with the guest riders we have been able to secure for both meetings and I am confident that they will do a job for us. Simon Lambert has guested for us in the past at Derwent Park, and scored quite heavily from the reserve berth, so a repeat performance would be very welcome. Meanwhile Simon Nielsen jumped at the chance to ride for us on Sunday at Newcastle as he still has a soft spot for the Comets, who were his first British club when he came over here in 2011.”
