Valiant Comets Go Down At Brough Park
Mon 01 Apr 2013 by Press Office
Comets go down 54-40 at Brough Park
Overall score Workington Comets 91 Newcastle Diamonds 96
The Workington Comets were defeated on the night and on aggregate by a strong looking Newcastle side in the Ian Thomas Shield but it wasn't for lack of effort
Already missing Mason Campton, and without track specialist Tero Aarnio due to an injury from the night before, the depleted Comets still pushed the Diamonds all the way to the last heat in the fight for the inaugural Ian Thomas Shield.

A fantastic Comets following saw a night for gating and the Comets all struggled like the previous night to get out of the gate, all were fast enough but just couldn't find a way past. There were fine displays from all the riders including guest rider Simon Nielsen but the Diamonds are a strong outfit and will be up there again this year.

Overall its been a great (but very cold) weekend of opening speedway and Newcastle have already accepted out challenge to win the shield back next season.

Match reports will be available soon
