Rich replaced by Cook for KOC at Ipswich
Comets Captain Richard Lawson was injured tonight whilst riding for Lakeside
The injury occurred in his opening ride, Heat 2, when he was on a 5-1 with team-mate Robert Mear. However a rash inside challenge from Birmingham reserve Martin Smolinski resulted in a very heavy fall for Richard who, although able to coast round at the back in the re-run to pick up the available point following Smolinski's exclusion, was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the meeting on medical advice.
Richard immediately reported back to the Comets management who made a swift move to contact Edinburgh for permission to speak to former Comet Craig Cook about taking a guest booking to replace Richard at Ipswich tomorrow.
Cook who is scoring points freely at the moment will be an ample replacement for the Comets skipper, who may be fit to return to the saddle for the second leg at Derwent Park on Saturday. However, only time will tell.
