Chris Mills injured wrist is not quite healed
Chris Mills will not be fit to return to his place in the Comets side to visit Leicester this coming Saturday evening (7:30pm start, 18th May) following his recent broken left wrist.
Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “I spoke with Chris today and although the wrist is improving it is not quite there yet. He is having the plaster taken off on Thursday and will have some more laser treatment on it from Brian Simpson at Ipswich.
“After that he has some physiotherapy lined-up with the aim of getting a couple of laps practice in at King's Lynn or Ipswich next week and, if he comes through that without any problems, he will then be back in the side for the visit of Glasgow to Derwent Park on Saturday 25th May; and with Tero, Kyle and Ashley all missing from that fixture we could certainly do with him back.
“We go to Leicester with Tero and Chris missing, while Ashley is fit to ride despite taking a serious knock to his shoulder when over in Poland (at Rawicz) in last Saturday's World Under-21 semi-final. In order to cover for them the regulations only permit us to utilise rider replacement for Tero, although we can of course have a guest to cover for Chris.
“With that in mind I was able to secure the services of Ipswich's Australian rider Cameron Heeps, who has a 4.63 average, just marginally below Chris's figure of 4.83.
“Cameron top-scored with 12 points from the reserve berth for Ipswich at Leicester last Sunday, so he obviously knows how to ride the place. In previous years he would not have been eligible to ride due to the 'eight-day rule' - however a change in the rules for 2013 means that he is now eligible – similar to the reason that Craig Cook was able to guest for us at Scunthorpe in the tv match at the end of April, despite the fact that Edinburgh were due to visit Scunthorpe just six days later.”
