Richard to ride against Australia at Ipswich this Thursday
Comets skipper Richard Lawson has been called up to ride for Great Britain against Australia in the first of this summer's five match international series, which takes place at Ipswich's Foxhall Heath Stadium this Thursday.
This is further recognition of the good form shown by the West Cumbrian born racer so far this season and he is naturally delighted to have been called up.
"Obviously it is an honour to be asked to ride for your country at any time, but to be part of what looks like being such an exciting series against Australia is always a bit special," said Richard.
"As well as being great for the fans, matches against Australia are also good for the riders as we already know all of the opposition through racing in the British leagues but it is a chance to race them under different circumstances and of course it can often pitch team mates against each other.
"I think the series is going to be close over the five meetings, which are over a range of tracks of different sizes with no home advantage for Great Britain as all the riders race on them all quite regularly.
"There is strength in depth on both sides, although naturally I am hoping to be included in the international match when it is staged at Workington in August, but for now it is great to be involved at the start of the series - and of course it gives me some more experience of the Ipswich track ahead of our league visit there in August!"
The full series calendar is:
Ipswich - Thursday 30th May
Rye House - Saturday 6th July
Sheffield - Thursday 25th July
Newcastle - Sunday 11th August
Workington - Saturday 17th August
The full line-up for the first international at Ipswich on Thursday is:
Great Britain: Lewis Bridger, Josh Auty, Ben Barker, Adam Ellis, Richie Worrall, Leigh Lanham, Richard Lawson.
Australia: Alex Davies, Dakota North, Cameron Woodward, Rohan Tungate, Aaron Summers, Jason Doyle, Josh Grajczonek.
