Comets Just Pipped to the Post in KOC Thriller

The Comets just failed in their mammoth task, to get through to the next round of the KOC, as they went down 48-41 at the Oak Tree Arena
Even Somerset thought they were lucky to go through as the Comets "were the better side" on the night in the glorious sunshine at the Oak Tree Arena.
Only some bad luck with engine failures, retirements and falls meant the Comets failed to maintain their 6 point lead held from the first leg.
They led for most of the meeting but needing three points from the last two heats there was a catalogue of catastrophies in Heat 14 which meant the Rebels won the heat 5-0. Tero's bike packed up whilst he was well in the lead entering the back straight on the opening lap in the initial running of the heat. Then, exiting the fourth turn on the first lap, Chris Mills lifted and careered into the Rebels guest Damien Koppe sending both riders sprawling into the fence by the start line.
Feferee Chris Gay excluded Chris for being the cause of the crash and with Tero not being under power at the time the race was stopped it meant both Comets were excluded from the re-run allowing the Rebels pairing to complete four laps unopposed to claim a 5-0 heat advantage.
In Heat 15, with the Rebels having the choice of starting positions, they outgated the Comets pairing of Kyle and Richard and although Kyle tried valiantly to get past Nick Morris it was to no avail. The resulting 5-1 for the Rebels in Heat 15 meant they ran out 48-41 winners on the night and 90-89 victors in the tie. Good luck to them in the semi-finals where they will face Edinburgh.
