Kyle Howarth to be a Wild Card at the Berwick round of the World Under-21 Championship Finals
Workington Comet Kyle Howarth has been named as one of the two British Wild Cards at the second round (of three) of this year's World Under-21 Championship Finals, with Ipswich's Adam Ellis the other, that takes place at Berwick on Saturday August 10th.

Joining the two British riders will be the best of the sport's rising stars including Poland's Patryk Dudek – a World Cup winner at senior level last weekend, who is currently leading the series after the first round.

Kyle, who only narrowly missed out on qualification for a place in the full series, will be looking to bounce back on a more familiar track after a tough night at Pila in Poland in round one where he was also a Wild Card. Meanwhile, Adam Ellis is handed his first opportunity at this level after a spectacular run of scoring in his first full season of league competition.

The Comets will have further representation on the night with Ashley Morris being named as one of the two track reserves along with Leicester's British Under-21 Champion Robert Branford.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: "We are all delighted that Kyle has been confirmed as a Wild Card for this meeting and while we were hopeful that would be the case, especially after he got called up for the first round in Poland at the end of last month, it is always nice to get it confirmed. I am sure he will give a good account of himself and it can only give him more experience at this level, which will benefit him and the Comets.

"It is also pleasing to see Ashley get a call up for a reserve berth and again, like Kyle, it is great experience just to be involved in meetings like this. If he gets a ride then great but if he doesn't he will still learn a lot just by being in the pits and watching all that is going on.

"It promises to be a cracking meeting and I am sure that both Comets riders will get plenty of support from Workington fans on the night as we have no meeting that evening; we host Scunthorpe at 7:00pm the following evening."

Great Britain youth co-boss Phil Morris said: “Kyle was the obvious choice, we said some time ago we wanted him involved in this meeting and it's a big chance for him to make an impression at this level.

“The selection of Adam was based on current form, and his call-up is thoroughly merited. It's great for us that at the age of 17 he is very much ready for this event and we are looking forward to seeing how he does.

“Both riders were very excited to receive the call and I'm sure they'll get plenty of backing from the British fans on the night.”
