Aarnio injured in Swedish crash
Comets were hit by an injury blow last night when Flying Finn Tero Aarnio suffered a shoulder injury while riding in Sweden following a crash with Linus Eklof.
Comets Team Manager Tony Jackson said: "I took a call from Tero around 10:00pm and as soon as I saw it was him I knew there must be a problem.
"He told me the news and that he was in hospital awaiting an x-ray on his shoulder. At this moment we do not know the extent of the injury but when the x-ray showed no break it indicates likely muscle or ligament damage.
"Tero says that at present he cannot move his shoulder at all so obviously we will have to use rider replacement for him tomorrow against the Monarchs assuming that Kyle is able to return to action following his illness.
"For these problems to occur the day before our double-header against Edinburgh and the start of the play-offs is simply unbelievable. Plus, we have a hectic schedule at the end of next week as we race three play-off matches in three days, so the timing could not have been worse! Sometimes you wonder if we will ever have any luck at all, as it always seems to be us that gets such problems at this time of year.
"On the positive side it was great to see Ashley claim runners-up position in the British under-19 Championship at Coventry. But, even so, you can't help but feel a little disappointed for him in the fact that he did the hard work by winning all five of his races, defeating everybody, but he then got pipped in the final - although it took a track record to beat him!"
