Rusty Harrison Testimonial Meeting Press Release - Wednesday 19th March
One name which wasn't expected in the line-up for Rusty's Digeri-do, the Rusty Harrison Testimonial at Workington on Saturday 5th April, was ex-Comets' hero James Wright. Actually he wasn't expecting to be in it himself!

“Initially I was speaking to a friend of Rusty's and he asked me if I was going to Rusty's meeting. I said yes I would, I'll go up and watch and support the cause", said James.

“Then I was asked – do you want to ride in it? Well I haven't been on a bike for a while, so I thought about it, then agreed to do it. Hopefully it will help pull in a bit of a crowd and I can enjoy it, it's just a bit of fun.

“I never really retired, and I didn't have any plans to ride, but I'm happy to help Rusty out. People can think what they want about the future. I was quite keen to have a blast so this gives me the chance.

“I first rode with Rusty in 2004 and it was one of my favourite years in the sport.

"We should really have won the league that year, we had such a good team and all got on so well, but it was Hull who won it, they were just unbelievable.

“I think any other year the team we had would have won it.

“Now I've got to get myself in shape and go and do the bikes again. What I score in the meeting isn't really important so I can race without any pressure, and then you never know what might happen in the future.”

At the last count there were just 5 heats and 3 riders left to sponsor, at £200 a time, contact can be made through the Rusty Harrison Testimonial Facebook page.
