Former Comets team-mates praise their pal Rusty
Rusty Harrison isn't a Workington rider this year but his Testimonial will be held there on Saturday 5th April, and his ex-Comets' team mates are happy to turn out for him.
Richard Lawson has also moved on from Derwent Park after spending all of his Premier League career there. He says: “I've ridden with him for a long time, I know him quite well and he's a great guy. In fact he was captain of the Comets when I was first finding my feet so he helped me a lot in my early stages, to get where I've got to now.
“I've seen some brilliant races he's had, too many to mention. He's probably not known for his starts, but he knows how to pass.”
Rene Bach is still a star Comet and top scored at Newcastle as they clinched the Ian Thomas Shield. Rene had two seasons in the same side as Rusty.
He says: “I like Rusty he's a good guy and I have got on with him pretty well. I think the first time I met him was when he shared a workshop with Peter Kildemand, when he rode for Workington. He's a funny guy.
“Even though he doesn't ride for Workington any more he's still the man to watch around there, he can pull some moves,” added Bach.
Riders taking part in the Rusty Harrison Testimonial Meeting include: Peter Kildemand (Swindon), Rory Schlein (King's Lynn), Kenneth Hansen (Coventry), Ty Proctor (Wolverhampton), Josh Grajczonek, Rene Bach & Ricky Wells (Workington), Richard Lawson & Aaron Summers (Redcar), Stuart Robson (Newcastle), Theo Pijper (Glasgow), Adam Roynon & Taylor Poole (Sheffield), Josh Auty (Scunthorpe), Kauko Nieminen & James Wright (unattached).
