Comets take on Glasgow as the serious business begins!
This Saturday evening (7:00pm start) at Derwent Park sees the Workington Comets begin their quest for League Cup points when the Glasgow Tigers come to visit.
This means a quick return to Derwent Park for the Tigers new recruit for 2014, testimonial man Rusty Harrison, who has spent the past four seasons with the Comets.
No doubt that Harrison, who could not be accommodated into the Comets 2014 starting line-up due to the points limit, will be keen to show what he can do around his old stomping ground against several of his former team-mates.
With Harrison being joined by the Tigers German-born number one Kevin Wolbert, who spent last season with Elite League Belle Vue, Dutch racer Theo Pijper, experienced Aussie Mark Lemon, rising French star Dimitri Berge and Danish youngsters Anders Thomsen and Kasper Lykke Nielsen the Tigers cosmopolitan line-up should prove to be good test for the 2014 Comets.
Meanwhile Workington, who came out on top in the pre-season Premier League title predictions by the columnists of the ‘Speedway Star' magazine will be going into the match with two of their regular septet missing due to Elite League doubling-up commitments.
Both Ricky Wells and Ashley Morris will be riding for their parent club Wolverhampton at Leicester in an early season Elite League fixture. In their absence the Comets will be operating Rider Replacement for Wells and will have former Comet Chris Schramm as a guest replacement at reserve for Morris.
