The search for a replacement for the injured Ashley Morris is now over as the Comets have signed exciting British youngster Joe Jacobs.
Following the disappointing news received yesterday that Ashley Morris has been ruled out of action for the remainder of the season we are pleased to announce that exciting young British rider Joe Jacobs has been introduced into the Comets side to replace Ashley at reserve.

Joe, who celebrated his twenty-first birthday last Thursday, hails from Ipswich and ironically he will make his Comets debut this Thursday at Ipswich in our Premier League fixture.

Having started the season with Peterborough he joins the Comets on a 4.00 average after losing his place in the Panthers line-up last week when they did a major team re-vamp owing to the long-term injuries sustained by Ryan Fisher and Lewis Blackbird.

In addition to riding for the Comets Joe also rides for Mildenhall in the National League while occupying one of the ‘Fast Track Reserve' berths at Wolverhampton, where he partnered Ashley before the Comet suffered his head injury at King's Lynn in mid-June.

Comets owner Laura Morgan said: “We are delighted to secure the services of Joe to ride for the Comets in what promises to be a very busy back end of the season for us. He was unlucky to lose his place at Peterborough when they made several team changes and once we became aware of his availability we wasted no time in contacting him with a view to him riding for the Comets. We were soon able to sort out a deal with him and, having received Management Committee approval to make the change, we are now pleased to be able to announce his signing.”

Meanwhile, team manager Tony Jackson added: “It has been hard over recent weeks having to rely on guests to cover for Ashley, and with limited availability the search for them has proved to be quite problematical at times, although in general they have served us well and we thank them all for their efforts.

"We have been actively seeking a replacement for Ashley for several weeks and we are very happy to have finally found one, and we believe that Joe can do a good job for us.

“Joe is certainly a good fit for Ashley and he is very keen to do well for the Comets and finish the season off strongly. We hope that he settles in quickly and with all the matches we have coming up I am sure that he will soon get into the swing of things with his new team mates, although he already knows Ricky quite well having been team mates at Wolverhampton.

“For his first match in Comets colours to be at his home town of Ipswich is a good start for him after which he will make his Comets home debut on Friday evening when we entertain Glasgow, who he actually rode for last season!”

While Joe Jacobs makes his Comets debut at Ipswich on Thursday, he will be partnered in that match at reserve by National League rider James Sarjeant, who will be riding as a guest in place of the injured Simon Lambert, while our guest in place of Simon on Friday will once again be Liam Carr.
