Workington Comets can confirm that Richard Lawson returns to be a Comets asset after invoking a buy back clause in the sale agreement.
Last season the Comets made the difficult decision to sell Richard Lawson to the Lakeside Hammers after they were offered a deal they couldn't refuse at the time, but included in the deal was a clause allowing the Comets management to take Richard back as an asset from the end of last season.
Richard, who was yet again Rider of the Year for the Lakeside Hammers, also rode for Redcar in the Premier League and maintained his status as a Premier League number one as well as increasing his Elite League average.
Laura Morgan said: "It wasn't really a deal I was keen on if I was honest, I have a lot of time for Richard and he is a local lad, but the deal on offer at the time made sense so we went with it but I insisted on a claw back clause in the agreement just in case I changed my mind!
"To have Richard back reinforces our asset base and gives us a great looking squad of current riders, in fact we could nearly put a team out of our own assets."
Richard started his speedway career with the Comets and progressed from reserve to heat leader, he then decided to look elsewhere for a Premier League team place last year to expand his experience but he did so with a promise to return to the Comets fold at some point in the future.
