The Comets went down to a 53-38 defeat in their League Cup fixture at the revamped Ashfield Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a meeting that also saw skipper Rene Bach withdrawn from the meeting through injury.
After making a fine start to the match the Tigers fought their way back into it to take the lead but the Comets were still in contention until Kozza Smith brought down Rene Bach in heat 10, wrecking Rene's bike and crash helmet and ruling him out of the remainder of the meeting with a shoulder injury.

From then on it was always going to be an uphill struggle against a team as powerful and hotly-tipped as Glasgow on their own track.

Nevertheless it became very much a case of what might have been for the Comets.
