Workington Comets 52 Plymouth Devils 40 (Premier League)
The Comets got their Premier League campaign off to the best possible start with a victory over the Plymouth Devils at Derwent Park on Saturday evening.

Despite having to call on three guests and utilise the rider replacement facility the Comets led throughout with Kyle Howarth heading the score-chart with 17 points from six outings - dropping his only point to the Devils top-scorer Ryan Fisher in heat 13.

The all-action Fisher picked up 15 points for the visitors, which included a four point return from heat 11 when taking a tactical ride.

Also impressive for the Devils was young Australian Jack Holder, who was making his first visit to Derwent Park and improved with each outing as he became more accustomed to the track. In fact Holder was involved in the best race of the night as he hounded Kyle Howarth for all four laps of heat 7 but the Comet held on to win.

For the Comets all of their guests gave solid performances with Josh Grajczonek collecting 12+2, having dropped his only point to the opposition in heat 9 when Fisher led from the gate.

Justin Sedgmen weighed in with 10 points from his five outings while at reserve Simon Nielsen put in plenty of effort for his 5+1 points return, which included a paid win behind Josh Grajczonek in heat 12 that all but clinched victory for the Comets.

The Comets skipper for the night, Ricky Wells, recorded 8+2, which included a from the back victory in heat 8. But, with 17 points, including five race wins, to his name the night really belonged to British under-21 Champion Kyle Howarth.
