Comets reserve Nicki Barrett has ruled himself out of this weekend's matches at Scunthorpe tonight (7:30pm) and at home to Rye House tomorrow (7:00pm) because of his ongoing shoulder problem.
Having initially injured his shoulder in a crash at Berwick in early May Nicki battled on for several meetings but was quite clearly struggling with it. He then missed the Comets away match at Edinburgh at the end of May but, having rested it for two weeks, found it was still a problem when he tried to race in Denmark and so it obviously still needs more time before he can return to competitive action.

Nicki's official Green Sheet Average for the month of June is 3.47 and so the choice of guests is limited but the Comets have secured the services of Redcar's Rafal Konopka (average 3.00) for tonight's visit to Scunthorpe where, on his last visit, he scored 5+1.

For tomorrow night's home meeting with Rye House the Comets have called on Glasgow's in-form reserve James Sarjeant (3.00) to ride as a guest in place of Nicki Barrett.

Otherwise the Comets are at full-strength for this weekend, with Kenneth Hansen returning to the side after missing the away match at Edinburgh two weeks ago, following his spill at home to Berwick, while Kyle Howarth has travelled back to the UK via Calais with the rest of Team GB following their elimination from this year's Speedway World Cup at last night's Race-off in Vojens, Denmark.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “After a two-week break we are all looking forward to getting into action once more and hopefully start to gain a bit of momentum following what has been very much a stop-start beginning to the season.

“It is unfortunate that we are going to be without Nicki this weekend but clearly, unless his shoulder is fully rested it will continue to be a problem and will be a problem for longer. However, we feel we have chosen the best guests available to replace him for these two matches and for that we thank them and their respective promotions for their co-operation. Hopefully they can do a job for us as we look to get some more league points on the board.”

The Comets line-up tonight at Scunthorpe as follows: 1 Kenneth Hansen, 2 Ricky Wells, 3 Rene Bach (capt), 4 Matthew Wethers, 5 Kyle Howarth, 6 Rafal Konopka (Guest), 7 Nathan Greaves.

The Comets line-up will be the same for tomorrow's home meeting with Rye House except guest James Sarjeant will occupy the number 6 berth for that match.
