Comets v Somerset Race Day Update!

Tonight at 7:00pm the Comets entertain the Somerset Rebels at Derwent Park in a Premier League fixture.
This could prove to be the Comets toughest home league fixture so far this season against a strong and full-strength Rebels side that contains former Comets Josh Grajczonek and Charles Wright.

The Comets welcome Matt Williamson back to the side after he missed Thursday's visit to Ipswich following his crash at Derwent Park last Saturday.

However, while Matt returns, Comets stalwart Rusty Harrison will unfortunately miss the meeting and tomorrow's visit to Newcastle as he is struggling badly with the shoulder that he injured in his big crash against Edinburgh at the end of April, which kept him out of the saddle for eight weeks.

Rusty has bravely soldiered on to help the team but has had to admit that it is proving too troublesome and following a disappointing night at Ipswich, where it again caused him big problems, he has had to reluctantly pull out of this weekend's fixtures and seek further medical advice.

The Comets will operate Rider Replacement in his absence, which gives everyone except Ricky and Kyle the opportunity to take an additional outing as cover for him.

A fine day is in prospect for what should be an excellent meeting - as the past few visits by the Rebels have been - AND fans are reminded that at the interval this evening the riders will be coming into the crowd to carry out the annual collection on behalf of the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund.

The 'Ben Fund' does a fantastic job for injured speedway riders, with Comets riders having benefited from it again this year. Once again can we ask that you donate whatever you can spare as every penny donated makes a big difference to an injured rider.

Following tonight's meeting there will be six-heats of junior races on behalf of the Team GB Youth set-up and a downloadable race-card is available by clicking the blue bar at the top of our website's page.
