The Comets suffered a huge injury blow last night when in-form reserve Matthew Wethers crashed in heat 2 at Edinburgh when riding as a guest for Newcastle.
Around midnight x-rays confirmed that he had suffered a broken shoulder-blade, ruling him out of the Comets final two league fixtures - at home to Glasgow this evening and at home to Edinburgh next Saturday.
Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: "This is a devastating blow for Matty and for the team. Matty was in great form at the moment and was a vital team member especially as we are using RR for Rusty Harrison.
"After spending hours on the phone I have finally been able to get a guest, however he is from the National League, as all ten eligible PL riders are unavailable for a variety of reasons. Then, of course it is the National League Pairs at King's Lynn tonight, which takes away 20 NL riders straight away.
"Nevertheless we are very grateful that Barrow-based NL rider Rob Shuttleworth, who rides for the Coventry Storm in the NL, has agreed to step in and help us out tonight.
"Rob has had a few PL outings with Redcar this season and is continuing to progress in the sport and it is always good to give a Cumbrian rider an opportunity with the Comets."
