Workington Comets are now able to announce the return of Bury-based reserve Matt Williamson for the 2016 season.
In doing so, Matt becomes the third rider to be named as a Comet for next season; joining the previously announced Ricky Wells and Kenneth Hansen on the team-sheet for 2016.

Matt will line-up at number seven in next season's starting line-up, filling the role of the ‘three-point' British rider' that must be named in every Premier League sides' starting line-up for next season.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “We are delighted to welcome Matt back to the side for next season. He created a very favourable impression when he joined us mid-way through last season and you certainly couldn't fault his effort and willingness to learn. He mixed in very well with the rest of the team and it is easy to forget just how little time he has been in the sport since switching over from moto-x.”

Meanwhile, Williamson is only too delighted to remain with the Comets and race on a home track that he really loves.

“As soon as the season ended I knew that I wanted to be back at Workington,” he declared.

“I felt that in the short time I had been there I had gelled with the lads in the team and the fans. I get on well with the promotion and I love the track; I prefer big tracks and Derwent Park really suits me.

“I soon became friends with Ricky and Kenneth and them being back there next season too is great news as I feel that I can learn from them. They were really good to me last year and taught me lots of things so hopefully that can continue next season.

“Now I have the whole of the winter to prepare for next season, which is obviously better than going into the Premier League mid-season as you're not playing catch-up with everyone else.

“I'll be getting all my equipment sorted over the winter and also spending plenty of time at the gym to build up my fitness. I'll also be doing a bit of moto-x to keep up my bike fitness and I can't wait for the season to start already!”

Comets owner Laura Morgan added: “In Matt I feel we have an excellent rider filling that important number seven position for next year and the experience he gained with us last season will certainly stand him in good stead for 2016 and we feel that he can really take his career forward next season.”

With Wells (8.86), Hansen (6.84) and Williamson (3.00) already confirmed for next season the Comets now have 23.80 points remaining for the final four places in the side to comply with the 42.50 limit for team building and hope to be able to announce their next signing very shortly.
