2016 Comets team members Mason Campton (pictured) and Ty Proctor were in action at Kurri Kurri (NSW) today in the first (of four) rounds of this year's Australian Championship.
Mason picked up 10 points from his five outings and reached the 'B Final' where, after an impressive start, he was rounded by Brady Kurtz on the opening lap before developing a problem and dropping back to last place.

Meanwhile Ty Proctor claimed 6 points from his five outings, which considering that all of his best equipment is still in the UK; after he was forced to make a rapid departure from these shores by the UK Border Agency in May of last year, was a credible effort under the circumstances. However, by his own admission, he was simply not making good enough starts on the night.

The meeting was won by new Somerset signing Rohan Tungate, who finished ahead of Edinburgh's Sam Masters and Belle Vue's Max Fricke, with 'B Final' winner Brady Kurtz (Poole) finishing in last place in the 'A Final'.

The championship now moves on to the second round at Undera Park (Victoria) this Wednesday (6th Jan) before taking in a round at Gillman (Adelaide, South Australia) on Friday 8th January and finishing at Mildura (Victoria) on Sunday 10th January when the identity of the 2016 Australian Champion will be confirmed.
