Dates of Derwent Park's first speedway action of 2016 can now be announced, with the Press & Practice session and the opening meeting dates now being made public.
The new season is just two months away and the new look 2016 Comets will open for business on Easter Saturday, 26th March, at 7:00pm, when they entertain Newcastle in the first leg of the Ian Thomas Shield, which the Comets have won for the past two seasons.
However, Comets supporters will get their first opportunity to see their 2016 team on track the previous weekend, on Saturday 19th March, when the club stages its ‘Official Press and Practice' session at Derwent Park. The precise details of this will be announced nearer the time, but it is anticipated that the riders will take to the track around 12 noon, as has been the case in previous years.
On the evening before Press and Practice, on Friday 18th March, the supporters will get their first opportunity to meet the 2016 Comets at the now traditional ‘Meet the Riders Evening'. This will once again be held in The Waverley Hotel, Workington, with the evening's proceedings getting underway at 7:30pm.
All of the 2016 Comets will be in attendance, along with the club's management, and as usual this will give the supporters the opportunity to meet the 2016 Comets team, hear their thoughts on the season ahead and also to ask any questions of the riders and management ahead of what promises to be another exciting season of Premier League speedway for the Workington Comets.
These are the first 2016 dates to be announced – and supporters can now put these dates on their 2016 Comets Calendars - which are still available via the Comets official website for those that have not yet managed to obtain one.
Meanwhile, supporters will not have long to wait for the remaining Comets 2016 official fixtures, which will be released by the BSPA tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 9:00am.
Supporters are also reminded that 2016 season tickets are still available and these can be applied for via the Comets official website or by calling the speedway office on 01900 813999 during office hours.
The 2016 Comets line-up features two English riders, two Danes, two Australians and an American, with the full Comets line-up for 2016 being as follows: Ricky Wells (8.86), Claus Vissing (7.54), Kenneth Hansen (6.84), Ty Proctor (6.68), Mason Campton (5.00), Adam Roynon (4.39) and Matt Williamson (3.00).
