The Comets pulled off an excellent home victory against a highly-rated, and arguably strengthened, Newcastle Diamonds side at Derwent Park tonight in their League Cup group match.
Having taken the early initiative with 5-1's in the opening two heats to take a 10-2 lead, the Comets held that advantage throughout.

They went into the final heat (the first corner of which is pictured above) knowing that a 3-3 or better would be enough to prevent the Diamonds claiming a match point.

But, when Kenneth shot from the tapes to lead throughout, while the hitherto unbeaten Claus was squeezed out by the Worrall twins, the Comets gained the 3-3 they required to maintain their unbeaten start to their League Cup group campaign.

The Comets all scored solidly throughout the match, recording eight race wins to the Diamonds seven, but crucially only recording five last places, with the Comets reserves outscoring their Diamonds counterparts 12-3; which made all the difference in the final reckoning.
