It is all systems go for this evening's Cumberland Pairs Championship at Derwent Park - start time 7:00pm.
The meeting will feature 12 riders - all seven Comets plus Craig Cook, Steve Worrall, Hugh Skidmore, Simon Nielsen and the up and coming Maryport youngster Dan Bewley racing over 15 qualifying heats with the top two pairings meeting in the Grand Final to determine the winner.
Points will be awarded on a 4, 3, 2, 0 basis - as per the Premier League Pairs Championship, which encourages team riding as a second and a third place is better than a win and a last place!
Tape touching and two minute exclusions will mean riders have to start from a 15-metre handicap and after all fifteen qualifying heats, where each pair meets all the other pairs once, if there is a tie then the overall finishing order will be decided by the result of the race when the tied pairings met.
After overnight rain a dry day is forecast and by 7:00pm track conditions should be perfect for what promises to be a very entertaining evening.
Special race-jackets have been produced for the evening and these will be auctioned off. Also, as it is an additional meeting, a nominal £1 will be charged for the race-card, but these will be numbered and the winning number will be able to choose a race-jacket of their choice from tonight to keep.
