Comets strengthen back up for Sheffield!

In a twist of fate the Comets have now been able to strengthen back up for their visit to Owlerton on Thursday!
In the original team declaration the Comets were forced to use a National League rider in place of Kenneth Hansen, who was scheduled to race in Sweden for Valsarna, and for which no guest or rider replacement facility was available.

However, with both Claus and Rasmus also missing on Thursday due to the Danish Championship Final, the Comets still held out some hope that a way could be found for Kenneth to turn out for them at Owlerton instead of riding in Sweden; just as he did at Redcar two weeks ago.

But, while riding as a guest for Peterborough yesterday, Kenneth sustained a minor shoulder injury, which has now ruled him out of racing in Denmark tomorrow (Wednesday) and Sweden on Thursday.

The impact of that situation is that because Kenneth is unfit to ride anywhere on Thursday the Comets are now allowed to track a guest in his place, so coming in as Kenneth's replacement at Owlerton is Scunthorpe's Australian rider Ryan Douglas, who four weeks ago top-scored with 13 points and 2 bonus points at Sheffield when riding for Scunthorpe.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: "Naturally we hope Kenneth is soon fit enough to ride again as we certainly need him back in the team, but this unexpected turn of events has certainly made us much more competitive on Thursday and should add to the entertainment factor for both Workington and Sheffield fans.

"We would like to thank Ryan Douglas for readily agreeing to guest for us, and to his promoter Rob Godfrey, as we now have two of his riders in our side on Thursday evening.

"Finally, we would also like to thank Barrow-based rider Rob Shuttleworth for agreeing to help us out when we needed a National League rider, and also for being so understanding when I had to tell him that things had changed. But I am sure that Rob will get his chance again in the future."
