Following Newcastle's draw at Redcar last night in the last of our League Cup group matches we have finished top of our three-team group and so qualify for the semi-finals.
The Newcastle Diamonds needed a win of any kind at Redcar and (unless they won by 7 points or more to gain 4 match points) they would then overtake us on points difference and go into the semi-finals. However, by racing to a 45-45 draw with the Bears they completed their four matches with 8 match points to their name, whereas the Comets were already back in the clubhouse with 9 match points.
The Comets now join Glasgow and Sheffield as confirmed group winners with the last place being filled by either Rye House or Somerset; depending on the outcome of Somerset's visit to Plymouth on Friday 10th June.
All four group winners will then go into an open draw to determine 'who plays who' in the pair of two-legged semi-finals.
