The Comets disappointing away form continued at Ipswich last night when they were soundly beaten 69-23 by a slick-starting Witches side at Foxhall Heath.
The 69-23 defeat was the club's heaviest defeat on the road since the sport returned to Derwent Park in 1999; just eclipsing their previous worst performance - a 67-24 defeat at Exeter back in 2001.
The Witches started the evening with three 5-1's in the opening three heats to move into a 15-3 lead before Claus ended the run by taking second place in heat 4.
Team manager for the night, John Sampford, gave Ricky a Tactical Ride in heat 5, where he finished second behind Nico Covatti to make the score 23-9, after which it became purely a damage limitation exercise!
With the Comets being consistently out-gated and struggling with a heavy circuit the Witches made full use of their home advantage and the Comets had to wait until heat 14 to record their only race win of the night; when Rasmus raced through from third to first in order to take the chequered flag.
However, another Witches 5-1 in heat 15, with the Witches skipper Danny King recording his 27th successive race win around Foxhall Heath, brought the curtain down on what was definitely a night to forget for the Comets!
