The Comets take on table-topping Somerset at Derwent Park tonight, without reserve Matt Williamson as he is forced to race in the National League Riders' Championship at Leicester.
The NLRC is the only National League meeting that takes priority over an 'official' Premier League fixture.

In place of Matt at number 7 tonight will be Newcastle's number seven rider, the north-east-based Danny Phillips.

Meanwhile the Rebels have Isle of Wight rider Nathan Stoneman riding as a guest in place of their injured number seven, Zach Wajtknecht, who picked up a wrist injury a few weeks ago. Although, had Wajtknecht been fit he would have also been forced to miss the meeting due to the NLRC.

Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: "We have known all season that the NLRC could potentially lead to a clash of dates, and as a result we have avoided having an official fixture on this date as far as possible.

"However, a second rain-off against Somerset two weeks ago (3rd September) left us with absolutely nowhere else to go with this fixture, which is why it is taking place today.

"Adam Roynon returns to the side this evening following five days of rest for his left shoulder injury, which ultimately meant that he could not ride at Newcastle last Monday evening. However, a track return as a reserve for parent club Coventry last night saw him net 9 points from the reserve berth.

"Meanwhile, the Rebels welcome former Comets Josh Grajczonek and Charles Wright back into their side tonight, along with their winter-signing from Ipswich; Rohan Tungate; after all three missed last night's 50-43 defeat at the hands of Edinburgh owing to a clash of dates with Swindon (at Lakeside), for whom all three riders double-up.

"However, the Rebels have now lost the services of first-season Aussie, Jake Allen, who was forced to withdraw from yesterday's league match up at Edinburgh after just two rides with concussion.

"In his absence the Rebels will operate Rider Replacement for him this evening, with his four programmed rides being shared between Charles Wright and their two reserves.

"Incidentally, our own Ricky Wells top-scored for the Rebels from the nunber one position last night at Armadale, while riding as a guest. Ricky collected 11+1 from his first four rides, before coming home in last position in heat 15 as the Rebels left Armadale empty-handed."

The forecast is for a dry day so hopefully it will be a case of third time lucky for this fixture following rain-offs at the end of June and again two weeks ago.

The two sides line up this evening as follows:

Workington 'Thomas Armstrong' Comets
1 Ricky Wells (captain),2 Mason Campton, 3 Kenneth Hansen, 4 Rasmus Jensen, 5 Claus Vissing, 6 Adam Roynon, 7 Danny Phillips (guest for Matt Williamson (NLRC)).

'Cases' Somerset Rebels
1 Josh Grajczonek (captain), 2 Rider Replacement for Jake Allen, 3 Charles Wright, 4 Paul Starke, 5 Rohan Tungate, 6 Bradley Wilson-Dean, 7 Nathan Stoneman (guest for the injured Zach Wajtknecht).

Referee: Phil Griffin.
