Fortune favours Panthers as they take the win!

The Comets went down to a 42-48 defeat at the hands of a back on form Peterborough side at Derwent Park on Saturday evening as the Panthers made it five successive league victories in their current end of season rally.
The absence of the injured Thomas Jorgensen once again proved difficult to overcome as a Peterborough Panthers side containing three former Comets plus former British GP winner Chris Harris just proved too much for the stretched Comets on the night.
Peterborough were without Jack Holder following his World under-21 final appearance in the Czech Republic the night before and had former Comet Charles Wright as a guest in his place. However, the Panthers would have expected Holder to have scored more than the four points scored by Wright, whose total was not helped by a second ride fall in heat 5.
But, the Comets also lost points when Ty Proctor shed a chain while holding second place in heat 4 while many onlookers felt that James Sarjeant was unfortunate to be judged as the guilty party when Peterborough reserve Tom Bacon crashed on the back straight in heat 2 after Sarjeant had appeared to pass him cleanly on lap three.
That crash ruled Bacon out of the meeting, which then gave former Comet Simon Lambert the opportunity to take his remaining outings. With all due respect to Bacon, that certainly strengthened the Panthers at reserve, but that's the rules and naturally we all hope Tom Bacon is okay following his fall. However, sometimes when you are already up against it things then seem to get that little bit tougher!
But a bright spot for the Comets came in heat 9 when Matt Williamson led from start to finish to defeat Chris Harris who, having fought his way past his team-mate Simon Lambert, was gaining on Matt over the last lap but the Comet held on for another memorable victory (see above picture).
However, the fans were treated to one of the races of the season in heat 10 when, having been handicapped 15 metres for receiving a second starting warning from referee Jim McGregor (his first came in heat 1), Craig Cook raced through from last to first within three laps to take a memorable and very much appreciated race win.
Nevertheless, the Panthers were able to maintain their lead over the closing stages and were assured of victory with one race still remaining; despite Craig gaining his revenge over Harris for his earlier heat 6 defeat with victories over him in heats 13 and 15.
