In-form Matt Williamson's season has been brought to a premature end after sustaining a foot injury at Buxton this afternoon in his opening ride.
Matt had a clutch malfunction at the gate and 'flipped' the bike over, which unfortunately came down on his left foot.
Matt bravely soldiered on and actually won his remaining four races but after the meeting when he removed his boot it instantly began to swell and hurt then, within minutes, he was unable to put any weight on it.
A visit to A & E earlier this evening confirmed that he had broken a bone in his left foot and sustained ligament damage, which means his season is over a week sooner than he expected.
With Matt and Thomas now both on the injured list the Comets will use Rider Replacement and a Guest to cover for their absences in their final two matches of the season: away at Glasgow on Friday and also at Newcastle on Sunday.
