Comets First Signing for 2018
Workington Speedway are absolutely delighted to announce the signing of local hot shot Dan Bewley for the 2018 season.
Dan, from Maryport, only started riding 2 years ago and has progressed so rapidly he has a lot of experts predicting a bright future on the world stage. Dan, who had his first ride on a proper speedway track at Workington was snapped up last season before the AGM finished and the Comets management were keen not to miss out again.
Dan, who achieved an average of 5.95 whilst riding for Glasgow last season will come in on a 5.80 after a 2.5% adjustment is made because he is classed as a new British rider in his first three full seasons in the league.
Comets owner Laura Morgan said: “This is an exciting start to our team building, Dan is such a natural talent you can see it in his track craft, you wouldn't think he's only be riding the bike for 2 years.
”I look forward to watching him ride Derwent Park every week and Im sure he will put at least 1 to 2 points on his average as he is a racer and our track is a racers track”.
Steve Whitehead, Co-Promoter, said: “At last, as we would have loved Dan in our side last season but when he was signed whilst we were still in the AGM on the Sunday it was not possible.
”Last years disappointment is forgotten now we've finally got our man”
Dan is a prodigy of our local legend Steve Lawson who was very excited to find out that Dan was coming to his local track and will be working with Dan during the season to help him progress.
Comets co-promoter and team manager Tony Jackson added: "This is a great start to our team building and in Dan we have a rider that has tremendous potential and very is exciting to watch. The fact that he is local is an added bonus and I see him becoming a very big fans favourite as the season progresses."
