The Workington Comets management are delighted to announce that former Comets Rene Bach and Rasmus Jensen are returning to the club to complete Workington's 2018 team line-up.
The two Danes last rode for Workington in 2015 and 2016 respectively and, having both missed out on racing in the UK last season, they are very happy to be returning to Derwent Park for 2018.

Twenty-seven year-old Rene, who is a Comets asset, will be returning to the side on an average of 7.53, which he achieved when spending the second half of the season on loan at Glasgow in 2016. That means he will start the season in the Comets number one race-jacket, which is a position that he has held in the past at the club.

Comets owner Laura Morgan is delighted to have her team complete and to be welcoming two familiar faces back to the club.

“It is a huge relief to complete our line-up and to be able to do that with two riders that we know, and just as importantly two riders who know the club and its supporters, is very satisfying,” she said.

“Rene spent four years with the club before deciding that he needed a break from racing in the UK, but we all knew that he would be back here one day and we are delighted that day has now arrived.

“Both the management and Rene felt that, despite some great performances for the club in the past, he still hasn't fully realised his potential and he is very keen to put that right. He is certainly a better rider than the bargain 7.53 average that he is returning to us on.

“We initially spoke to Rene a while ago but, although he was keen to return for 2018, it proved quite difficult to sort out due to his work commitments and at one stage it looked as if it would not be able to happen. However, following several rounds of negotiations with his boss back in Denmark it soon became clear how keen he was to return and we are delighted that eventually a way forward could be found to enable him to be a Comet once again!

“Meanwhile, with Rasmus it was also a case of him being keen to return to the club after sitting out British racing last season.

“He is very friendly with both Rene and Nicolai (Klindt) and that can only help them all, while this time around it should be easier for Rasmus than it was in 2016 as he now knows the club and what he is coming to, which he didn't last time.

“Also, on this occasion Rasmus is joining us well ahead of the season starting, whereas last time he missed the very start of the season after coming in at the last minute as a late replacement for Ty Proctor, who will of course be his team-mate this time around.

“Rasmus proved when he was last with us that he was capable of winning races both home and away, often at crucial moments in the match, and he increased his average as well as being our second best rider away from home.

“Now 24 years of age, Rasmus returns on the 6.14 average that he achieved with us in 2016 and he is another rider that is more than capable of raising his starting figure; as he is a much better rider than that. You only have to look at the standard of rider that he regularly beats in his native Denmark to see that.

“With the side now complete I am very happy with the seven riders that we have got signed up and, not only are all of them capable of raising their averages, they are all capable of performing well both home and away and the side certainly looks solid from top to bottom.”

The signing of Rene Bach (7.53) and Rasmus Jensen (6.14) coupled with the already signed Nicolai Klindt (7.51), Ty Proctor (7.15) and Dan Bewley (5.80) gives the Comets a very solid one to five, while with Mason Campton (5.73) and Kyle Bickley (2.00) at reserve the Comets certainly look to have plenty of potential there too.
