Depleted Comets make it a perfect weekend with victory at Brough Park!
Against all the odds the Comets showed just what they are made of by pulling off a stunning 50-40 victory at Brough Park on Sunday evening in the 1st leg of their KO Cup tie against the Newcastle Diamonds.
This made it three wins out of three matches this weekend as the Comets had already tasted success in the home and away Championship clashes with Berwick on Friday and Saturday evening.
This was all the more sweeter considering the Comets went into the match with Ty Proctor (shoulder) and Mason Campton (wrist) both missing following falls at Berwick on Saturday evening.
Following well over three hours chasing every possible guest rider where a total of over 40 phone calls and texts were made and sent to a selection of riders, team managers, promoters etc. we had to eventually admit defeat and accept that there simply was nobody available so, by early afternoon, we were grateful that local Newcastle junior Josh Embleton agreed to step in to fill a race jacket for us!
We then had to operate Rider Replacement for Ty and use Josh as a NL guest for Mason.
Team manager Tony Jackson said: "In the end it became a case of you name me a rider and I can tell you what he's doing and where he's at! It is just ridiculous trying to find guests these days as you think you have a big choice but it soon becomes clear that you haven't.
"This isn't the first time we have been in this situation and we aren't the only club to have this problem. But, that's three and a half hours of my life that I won't get back after chasing around for riders!"
