Championship Shield, semi-final, 1st leg
The Comets and Scunthorpe fought out a thrilling 45-45 draw at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night in a dramatic match that saw the home side secure maximum points in each of the last two heats to snatch a late draw.

Afterwards, Comets team manager Tony Jackson said: “In some ways it feels like a defeat after leading throughout but fair play to them for fighting back in the last two hard-fought races.

“Considering our recent record around there we would certainly have taken that result before the start of the meeting and it means that we go into our home leg just needing a victory of any sort to see us through to the final. But, it is effectively only half time and anything can happen in this sport, so we certainly won't be taking anything for granted when we stage the second leg.”

The Comets provided nine race winners, with Rene Bach winning each of his first four outings, while the team picked up 8+1 from the four rider replacement outings for Ty Proctor.

The date for the second leg is yet to be confirmed, with the aggregate winners facing either Lakeside or Peterborough in the final.
