Bury-born Matt is another convert from Moto-X having taken up the sport when 20 years-old and having his first taste of team competition with Buxton. Such was his improvement that Scunthorpe named him in their starting septet for 2014, where he remained for most of the season.
The 2015 campaign saw him without a Premier League club before joining the Comets in July after reserve Nathan Greaves crashed out with a broken leg. But, after acquitting himself well with the club in his half season as a Comet he was given the chance to return for a full season in 2016 where his never-say-die attitude saw him continue to progress as he picked up the most improved average award at the end of the season.
In addition to representing the Comets Matt also rode for the Belle Vue Colts at the new National Speedway Stadium where he had a very successful season.
He is one of three 2016 Comets to be retained from last season for 2017 and, in addition, he has also signed for Buxton in the National League.
